Tiana Jakicevich

Advocating for marginalised and minority students, through Ngā Rangahautira.

Tiana’s advocacy journey started at a young age, as her tūrangawaewae faced the repercussions of the climate crisis. Today, Tiana is a proud climate activist with intrinsic understanding that the solutions to the climate crisis are tied to the decolonisation and restoration of indigenous knowledge systems and relationships with people and place.

Tiana champions for the protection of human rights and indigenous climate justice within her community and internationally, having gone to the United Nations in Spain to fight for indigenous climate justice, as a member of indigenous collective Te Ara Whatu.

Tiana is an Executive member of Ngā Rangahautira; the Māori Law student’s association at Victoria University of Wellington. Here, she advocates for marginalised and minority students within a university context. She also sits on faculty boards and the university’s governance board, in addition to completing her studies in Law and Arts.
